September is Hunger Action Month

One very real indicator of health disparities is the prevalence of hunger in communities across the United States. Food insecurity is a health issue for both nutrient-based health reasons and psychological ones.

As children head back to school this month and rely on healthy food to get them through the day, Feeding America has declared September “Hunger Action Month”. It is a day when Feeding America’s network of food banks work together to encourage individuals in their communities to take action to lessen the pressures facing one in six people in the U.S. who are at risk of hunger.
